On
the 24th of July 2003, BAKTI organized their yearly special event for
400 less fortunate children from all over Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Television
Airtime Services and Golden Kids Club were among the sponsors with GKC, being
the only children-organizing partner, providing all the entertainment. Hari Kanak-Kanak
Malaysia celebrates the joy of sharing and giving to ensure that all children
enjoy the warmth of a loving family, the joy of having fun and being entertained
and the opportunity to bond with other children from diverse backgrounds.
For
the fifth year running, TAS and GKC in conjunction with BAKTI have kept their
commitment to better the lives of the
unfortunate
children from orphanages and the handicapped. The children were given a fantastic
show that featured entertaining clowns that filled the tent with laughter, a Michael
Jackson show which showcased smooth moves and Uncle Siow who amazed the children
with his endless list of magic tricks. Too Phat got most of the children dancing
and jumping around to their cool hip-hop tunes.
The
event was made even more special when the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir
Mohamad graced the occasion with his wife the Datin Seri Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd
Ali, who is also the Yang Di-Pertua BAKTI. Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and
his wife
Datin Seri Dr.
Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali were genuinely surprised when a birthday cake especially
made for our beloved leader was presented by the Golden Kids Club on behalf of
all the attendees.
Being
the last event patronized by the Prime Minister and the First Lady before his
retirement, it was certainly a very emotional and teary-eyed event for the GKC
members as they have grown very fond of and attached to Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir
Mohamad and Datin Seri Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. To commemorate their service
to Malaysia and especially to the children, GKC presented them
with
a memento entitled “A tale of characters” depicting the greatness of and adoration
for the Prime Minister and the First Lady.
The numerous contributions by BAKTI, GKC and TAS to the success of Hari Kanak-Kanak BAKTI taught all participants generosity, humanity and compassion. All were very tired by the end of the day but the rewards far out-weighed the hard work and many hours of sweat put into organizing this event.
